My Review: "A Flute In the Willows" by Carole Brown is the second book in the (The Spies of World War II) series. I believe that it can be enjoyed without reading the first book even though the book picks up where "Music In Their Hearts" leaves off. I recommend reading "Music In Their Hearts" to get the background story and meet the rest of the family.
This is Josie and Jerry Patterson's story, about how different their lives are during the time when Jerry is serving in the war and when he comes home with an injury. It is a love story but it is also a mystery.
Who really is the strangers in town that has captured Josie's interest? Josie and Jerry are married but it seems that Jerry wants to let Josie be free , but why?
The ending in both of these books really surprised me, I really was surprised at who was really the mastermind in both books.
I liked "A Flute In the Willows" because it shows that God can turn all things to the good.
This quote from "A Flute In the Willows" literally had me crying, I hope it isn't a spoiler alert, but I am sharing it to hopefully entice you to read the book " Vanda's wish from the night......weeks ago.... Echoed in Jerry's mind. Sometimes I think I'd rather die at twenty and have had done one thing worthwhile. Someone had granted Vanda her desire."
This book is about how dreams and hopes are destroyed and how new ones can be made with God's help.
I hope more books are coming in this series.

- Josie, filled with elaborate plans on becoming an Olympic participant once the horror of war is over, ignores all the people in her life—except when it’s convenient for her to use them. All that matters is attaining her goal and Jerry. Running roughshod over all others, forgiving and forbearing as they are, is her usual ploy in getting what she wants. So who do you turn to when all your dreams turn to ashes?
